St Mary Wraxall,

Perhaps the first stone building on the site in Lower Wraxall. Late Norman nave which leads through the pointed late 12th century chancel arch with scalloped capitals into a 13th century chancel. Narrow lancet windows of that period and two square headed windows added a couple ofcenturies later to the nave. No tower. A thorough restoration in about 1840 added an octagonal bell-cote and developed the projection onthe north of the nave; some evidence - perhaps the small squint - must have suggested this. A modest interior with some interesting tablets; the triple lancet east window is of c. 1840.The churchyard has two elegant chest tombs to members of the Bennet family. An earlier tomb to the Lawrences, who built the Manor house in 1610 about a quarter of a mile north-west, are buriedin a much less elaborate tomb alongside the porch. but with inscriptions in the chancel.
